Frederikssund.
Representatives of the Viking Players visited
Ramsgate earlier this year. It was hoped that the Viking plays
would be performed in Ramsgate during the summer, but due to
unforseen circumstances this has not been possible.
The Secretary Janet Dale and Membership Secretary Steve
Ward visited Frederikssund during May to join, with
representatives from six other
towns, in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of
Frederikssund becoming a municipality in its own right.
During the visit they took part in a procession through
the town, unfortunately although the weather on the Friday and
Sunday was very pleasant, during the parade it rained.
This was not a problem for your representatives as they
ensured they were prepared for the weather, but the Borgmester,
Ole Find Jensen, of Frederikssund, being a true Viking, just
wore a suit and got rather wet.
It was a great honour for Janet and Steve to walk with
the Borgmester at the front of the parade.
During the weekend there was a market on the quay side,
with many boats tied up alongside, which was very interesting.
There was also a firework display, which unfortunately all the
visiting twin town representatives missed as they were still having
dinner with the Borgmester.
It is hoped that it may be possible for the Viking
players to visit Ramsgate next year during the anniversary
celebrations commemorating 50 years of Twinning between the two
towns.
